Intermediate Insurance Defence Lawyer (YOC: 2014 – 2020)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hold carriage of both Tort and Accident Benefits files with direct client contact
- Ensure proper documentation including using our file management system and adhering to both internal and external best practices
- Attend discoveries, meditations, EUOs, LAT hearings, pre-trials, and other litigation events both virtually and in-person
- Collaborate closely with opposing counsel, clients, and experts to mitigate exposure and have successful outcomes
- Manage internal teams including legal assistants and law clerks
QUALIFICATIONS:
- LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized law school is required
- Called the Ontario Bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario is required
- Minimum of 6 – 12 years of experience in Insurance Defence or Plaintiff side Personal Injury with both Accident Benefits and Tort files
- A proven track record of success in handling files
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team
- Highly organized and client-service oriented
- Experience managing and working with staff including legal assistants, law clerks, and accounting staff
- Experience with coverage files is preferable but not necessary
