In our busy lives dealing with so much day-to-day work in each of our respective firms, it is helpful to have someone remind us of the ways that we can actually make a difference. In our recent TLOMA Professional Development session, Stephen Friedman did just that. In his discussion on Making a Leadership Difference, Stephen reminded us that if we have a goal, persistence and are motivated to take action, we can and will make a difference. Knowing what motivates you though - what you really want, is fundamental to get you to take the initiative that is needed. Too often we find reasons or excuses why we cannot get things done (let’s face it there is no shortage of that in legal). Stephen’s stories on how important it is to reframe those excuses and stay focused on the goal, helped to clarify how changes are within our reach. Stephen’s presentation was personal, entertaining and immensely informative. I hope TLOMA can lure him to speak to the group at the TLOMA conference at Blue Mountain this fall. I would welcome the opportunity to hear him speak again.
