Fraud and Cyber Liability

Sarah MacGregor is a Partner in PwC’s Forensic Services group in Toronto. She specializes in providing forensic accounting services to a diverse client base ranging from private companies to large public multi-national corporations.

Sarah investigates matters involving fraud and suspicious circumstances and provides trusted advice to clients on fraud limitation and loss prevention policies. She has conducted numerous assignments related to allegations of management and employee fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act investigations and compliance reviews, source and use of funds analyses and has assisted clients in implementing effective anti-fraud regimes.

Jeff Goreski is a Director with PwC's Forensic Services group in Toronto.  Jeff specializes in cyber related investigations, asset-tracking, anti-money laundering, intelligence gathering, fraud vulnerability assessments, litigation support services and the implementation and assessment of Anti-Bribery & Corruption Regimes.  

Jeff has been involved in numerous criminal and civil investigations in numerous countries.  Jeff served on the advisory board of the Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (ACEDS). He has also contributed to the creation of the US Federally recognized eDiscovery certification process and the creation of the technical chapter of the study guide.

Deborah Laferriere, BBA, FCIP, is a Partner with Purves Redmond Limited – Insurance.  Deborah joined Purves Redmond in September 2004 as Senior Associate and was made partner in 2007. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Professional (F.C.I.P.).

Deborah has been in the insurance industry for over 25 years, first with risk management at Marsh Canada Limited and for the past 11 years, at PRL. As a client executive, she has designed and implemented many risk management programs for large organizations. In addition, she has in-depth knowledge of all insurance products for corporations including Professional Liability, Cyber Security, General Liability, Property & Business Interruption, Directors and Officers Liability and other specialty lines of coverage. In the course of her career she has been involved in assessing alternative options and analyzing retentions versus premium for many of her clients. The types of clients include Lawyers, Actuaries, Trucking Fleets, Manufacturing, Chemical and Real Estate.

Deborah co-authored an article with Valerie Cusano (President of Iridium) titled “D&O Opportunities” which was published by Canadian Underwriter September 2007.

Matthew Davies, AdC, FCIP, CRM is the Director – Professional, Media and Cyber Liability with Chubb Insurance Company of Canada.  Matthew started his career in Montreal in 1988 as an Insurance Broker, later moving to underwriting.  He joined Chubb in Vancouver in 1997 where he underwrote Property and Casualty coverages as well as Executive Protection and Financial Institutions products.  He transferred to Toronto in 2002 to set up the Canadian operations of ChubbPro.  Matthew is frequent speaker at insurance industry events across Canada and in the United States on topics concerning errors and omissions, media liability, social media; and cyber exposures.

Holding an industry designation of Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) and a diploma in Risk Management (CRM), he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations at the University of British Columbia and a Master of Arts degree in History from McGill University.

Beyond his career in insurance, Matthew is a Logistics Officer with the rank of Commander in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Reserve.  He completed senior officer courses at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany; the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham, United Kingdom; and is a graduate of the Canadian Forces College in Toronto.  Matthew was deployed on an operational tour of duty at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics as the Assistant Chief of Staff – Logistics for the RCN’s mission in support of the Games on OPERATION PODIUM.  From July 2007 through July 2011, he was the Commanding Officer of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship YORK, Toronto’s Naval Reserve Division.  Following his command tour, he assumed a national role as Branch Advisor to the Commander of the Naval Reserve in respect of Naval Combat Support occupations.  Matthew’s current appointment, as of 1 July 2015, is as the Liaison Officer for the Greater Toronto Area for the Canadian Forces Liaison Council – the bridge between employers and the Reservists whom they employ.  In addition, Matthew is an Aide de Camp (AdeC) to Her Honour, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
