We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Immigration Law Clerk to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will assist our lawyers with case management, preparation, and processing of immigration applications, and provide excellent client service. This role is ideal for someone with strong organizational skills, a passion for immigration law, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Kingwell Immigration Law, operating virtually and based in Toronto, is looking to add an experienced Immigration Law Clerk/Legal Assistant to our team. The role involves preparation of immigration applications and litigation under the supervision of the firm’s lawyers. The key responsibilities are as follows:
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file immigration applications, including work permits, study permits, visitor visas, permanent residence applications, family sponsorships, and refugee claims.
- Assist with the preparation of supporting documents and correspondence to clients, government agencies, and immigration authorities, including IRCC, CBSA, the IRB and the Federal Court.
- Review and analyze client documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission.
- Prepare legal documents, including forms, affidavits, and letters for submission to immigration authorities.
- Conduct legal research on immigration law and policy, including updates from departments, tribunals, and courts.
- Monitor deadlines for immigration filings and applications to ensure timely submissions.
- Communicate directly with clients, providing updates on case progress and addressing inquiries.
- Assist in preparing clients for interviews and hearings with immigration officials, where applicable.
- Maintain and organize case files and records, ensuring all documents are up-to-date and compliant with regulations.
- Provide general administrative support as needed, including scheduling appointments and maintaining client files.
This is a full-time role. It will be hybrid and primarily remote. Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of an accredited Law Clerk Program, Paralegal Program, RCIC or related legal education.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an immigration law firm or related legal environment.
- Experience in preparing filings for and communicating with Federal Court, Immigration and Refugee Board, IRCC, and CBSA an asset
- Strong knowledge of Canadian immigration law and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software. Familiarity with Clio is preferred.
- High attention to detail with the ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Second language an asset.
