Manager of Communications

The Manager of Communications will report directly to and work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing at Gardiner Roberts (GR). This individual should be a strategic, self-starting professional with robust communications experience in the legal/media industry. You'll need excellent stakeholder engagement, executive leadership, planning, and communication skills to navigate the dynamic legal environment successfully. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Communication and Media

  • Lead GR's external communications and thought leadership strategy to enhance our corporate image and reputation.
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Team to identify and execute reputation-enhancing opportunities.
  • Spearhead external communications efforts to leverage GR’s prominent presence in the legal field, legal collaborations, and our commitments to inclusion and diversity, social responsibility while elevating the overall corporate profile and reputation.
  • Identify and support the delivery of key thought leadership opportunities (speaking, media, social, podcast, etc.), ultimately raising awareness and bolstering GR’s brand.
  • Strengthen GR’s presence on external digital channels – Twitter, LinkedIn, through proactive campaigns that effectively communicate our narrative as a legal industry leader, including our expertise and community initiatives. 
  • Oversee all social channels and develop a comprehensive editorial calendar for social engagement.
  • Ensure a unified external presence for GR by leading cross-functional visibility efforts.
  • Identify impactful opportunities to drive executive communications for GR across all key practice areas and for all group leaders.
  • Establish measurable KPI’s and performance data to assess the effectiveness of the external communications strategy, implementation, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Handle and respond to corporate communications media inquiries effectively.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects and programs within budget and schedule.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with contacts at various media outlets to amplify GR's visibility and opportunities to be considered as strong interview candidates, be it on TV, radio, or in print.

Directories and Awards

  • Oversee and lead the end-to-end process of various award and directory submissions annually at GR, (Chamber's, WWL, Best Lawyers, etc.) including administrative tasks, process mapping, tracking, project management, submission coordination, copywriting/drafting, and serving as the communication lead for directory-related correspondence. This role aims to facilitate GR's participation, optimize rankings, and secure awards.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the internal team to gather information needed for submissions. Assist in drafting submissions, strategize on candidates, nominees, and key clients, and promote successes.
  • Manage and maintain the schedule of directory submissions, lawyer surveys, award nominations, league tables, and other accolades.
  • Track all directories and awards results to prepare insightful reports on year-over-year growth at GR.
  • Assess results to determine appropriate messaging for internal and external communication through social media campaigns, lawyer profiles, and the GR website.
  • Successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail, working on short and long-term projects in a diverse team environment.
  • Develop working relationships with key partners/lawyers in GR's various practice areas and collaborate with them. 
  • Establish and nurture relationships with contacts at various awards bodies to enhance GR's visibility and chances of recognition. Stay informed about upcoming opportunities and ensure the firm is well-positioned for success.
  • Act as the key point-of-contact for all directories and publications at GR.

Request for Proposals

  • Proactively looks for RFP opportunities that align to the firm's strategic goals and ensures a fit through consultation with the Director of Marketing, Senior Partners, the Executive Team, and begins the process of crafting the response.
  • Prepares cost estimates and writes proposals as necessary at GR.
  • Reviews proposals as needed and manages issues requiring resolution to ensure information is transmitted to on a time and with the appropriate level of detail at GR.
  • Develop a calendar and maintain a database of responses and upcoming renewals of existing RFP's.
  • Reviews proposals to ensure accuracy and completeness of information, adhering to templates/structure at GR.
